Who Cares

    About my essay:

The oneness of being that is often only associated with eastern religions and clean LSD experiences shows it's presence every time you step up to the stove. This is why we must cook well.

Who cares? Not just about food, or wine, or why one should always cook well, but who really f**k’n cares? What do you care about and how much do you care? If it happens to be about food that is fantastic, but we must care and care a lot.

This caring thing is much bigger than we may have ever contemplated and it’s connected to the fabric that connects all of us as human beings. The oneness of being that is often only associated with eastern religions and clean LSD experiences shows it’s presence every time you step up to the stove. In fact, it taunts you.

For me, it’s the spirit that manifests itself in all your senses that makes you grab a sauté pan with vigor to make every dish better even though you’ve made it ten thousand times before.  Viola! Now you know when you are at the corner of ‘Love Street’ and ‘Care Avenue’

If you are not standing at this location on a regular basis, you need to do yourself a favor and get there often. That is why we strive towards perfection. We may never get there but as sure as your body needs nourishment to survive, we have to try harder to be as close to perfection as we can be.

If not, we have abandoned our natural instincts and no longer are we being true to ourselves, causing ripples in the oneness that holds the universe together.

Just like pizza dough, if those ripples cause a tear we will never bake right.  I don’t know about you, but for me, baking right is an integral component of my spiritual being and a well deserved treat and I do not mean those of you who salaciously partake in the bounty.  Just consider yourselves lucky and keep eating what I’m making.

This condition of always striving towards perfection is an inherent human condition and if this condition does not currently reside in you, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you, my friend are broken, cracked, and maybe semi functional if not completely non-functional.  The spiritual state of emotion equivalent to what they currently refer to as a “hot mess”.  You’ve been there. I knew when I was there! This rambling is for you; the injured, the hurt –those that say, “what the hell, I’ll have a bowl of cereal again”. You know who you are, and you need to be fixed.

I cannot say it will work for everyone but for me the solace of always cooking well epitomizes the way of life, the path to enlightenment or something close. If your successes exceed your failures you will make many people happy along the way and hey, if you happen to wind up in prison, cooking food well will serve you well. Now grab a pan, get to healing yourself, and remember you are only as good as the last dish you made, so make them often.

I love this take on food.  You are very accurate that the soul and sprit of food is being stripped away from pleasure to necessity and efficiency.  The same reason I find myself making a batch of refried beans at 9am on a monday, still trying to master how they can be better, and I as well at experiencing them...  This applies to other common things like eggs, always a challenge and always different.

Cooking is therapy for me, although, I do not recall being hungry much on LSD, but it is the horizontal mind expansion that makes cooking broader and flavors more dynamic.

Throw a sugarcube in for me and good luck!
